The Junkyard Druid series is simply marvelous. I really enjoy the Druid and the other people (or whatever some of them are) in his world. "Underground Druid" sends the Druid on an errand for Maeve, down to Underhill, the hidden fae world that constantly changes, and at present is disintegrating.Maeve wants four magical artifacts, and she will help the Druid in his quest to rescue several dozen human children, and kill an enemy. To do this, he needs a team, including a guide, a healer, a fighter, and a man who was formerly a sworn enemy, but now seems to be a friend. This man grew up in Faery as a human prisoner, and knows a lot about it, though he was ultimately cast out from his home after losing a battle to the Druid. In that process he was burned badly, losing an eye and being tremendously scarred. The fae had the capability of healing him, but instead chose to let him suffer and cast him out.Maeve is a distant relative, but she's not a benevolent grandmother. She is a fae, with all their devious plans and plots, and a totally different view of what should exist. If she gets all of the artifacts, she can become a supreme ruler, and the human race will be endangered.The Druid will resolve that conflict later, if he survives. Right now he has to get the children.And if Amazon.com ever offers a craneskin bag of ultimate holding, I'm ordering it.
I'm becoming more and more a fan of M.D. Massey and his Druid series.As always the characters, goodies and baddies alike, are interesting and fun. The plot is hack and slash in a contemporary setting. There's nothing like a trip Underhill to enliven the story.I can't wait until I dig into the next story.If you like the Iron Druid or the Dresden series then you will enjoy the Junkyard Druid.
Colin McCool thought he had troubles before, only to see them doubled and trebled in this book, the fourth in the very entertaining Junkyard Druid series. I have thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Massey's use of multiple mythos and creatures of all kinds. After all, if one cultures mythology is true, why shouldn't others be as well. He has definitely done his research in bringing them to philographic life--and this ain't the Disney version of these creatures. The Brothers Grimm were far closer to the truth....Poor Colin has jumped from the frying pan into the fire as a result of events in this book...and I can't wait to start reading his next adventure.And to Mr. Massey: loved the Claudia Black reference. Farscape forever! We geeks must stick together.
I love the whole series, I am a big Dresden Files fun, so this series fills the void:).It is not at the same level but action and innovation are there and without comparing it to Dresden Files, it is a great book/series. If I compared, I would take a start away, but I am so happy I discovered these books.Definitely worth to buy.
Underground Druid completes the quest begun butt Colin McCool that was begun in book one of this series, and it is a spectacular finish as the cries come home to roost for many who have been manipulating and dogging his steps since the beginning.This series has grown more amazing with each book, and while this is an ending, it is more like an interlude as Collin's adventures continue still with the next book in the series, which this book sets up for us.Massey sounds an amazing tale of urban fantasy.
Another strong title in this series. Loved how Colin met fae other than Maeve and made connections. Loved some of the magical creations! Such a cool thing, the other side! And Jessie makes another appearance, leaving you to wonder how she will continue in the series! Keep em comin"!!
Just completed book 4, Underground Druid, and I love the twist at the end. I ordered book 1-Junkyard Druid a few days ago, and haven't stopped reading since. I really like how each book seamlessly flows into the next with very little passage of time between stories. Massey has done a fantastic job setting up the world of Colin McCool, and at the end of this book he throws a wrench into that world I didn't see coming and it sets up a whole new set of rules that will be interesting to see how it plays out. But I kinda tilts the odds in Colin's favor, as long as he starts up his druidic studies with Finnegas again, plus with the eye of Baylor still in his head (sort of) it will be real interesting how things progress from here. As soon as I get done writing this review, I'm a gonna be starting on book 5 Druid Justice. Can't wait
I wasn't diet excited with the first book but I was still intrigued. While waiting for some other books to hit I wanted to see what happens to Colin. I'm so glad I did!! I think the books have gotten better, the story rocks. Colin the druid has taken on more and just when you think you figured it out... Nope something else just drops!! If we can't have new Dresden Files, Colin will fill the whole and do it with style!!
